Fexofenadine is an antihistamine (third-generation antihistamine) pharmaceutical drug used in the treatment of allergy symptoms, such as hay fever, nasal congestion, and Urticaria.
Fexofenadine is a pharmacologically active metabolite of Terfenadine, is a non-sedating anti-histamine with selective peripheral H1 receptor antagonist activity. Fexofenadine Hydrochloride is rapidly absorbed into the body following oral administration, with Tmax occurring at approximately 1-3 hours post dose. It prevents the aggravation of rhinitis and urticaria and reduces the severity of the symptoms associated with those conditions, providing relief from repeated sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes and general body fatigue.
Fexofenadine has been demonstrated to be safe and effective for children ages 2–5 years old and 6–11 years old in treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis.

Indications:
● Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis
● Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria
● Sneezing
● Runny nose
● Itchy nose or throat

Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Rapidly absorbed
Peak plasma levels: 2 hours
High fat meals decrease bioavailability by 50%
About 5% eliminated by hepatic metabolism.
t1/2: 14.4 hours
Excreted mainly in the feces (80%).

Mechanism of Action:
Fexofenadine hydrochloride, the major active metabolite of terfenadine, is an antihistamine with selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist activity. Both enantiomers of fexofenadine hydrochloride displayed approximately equipotent antihistaminic effects. Fexofenadine hydrochloride inhibited antigen-induced bronchospasm in sensitized guinea pigs and histamine release from peritoneal mast cells in rats. The clinical significance of these findings is unknown. In laboratory animals, no anticholinergic or alpha1-adrenergic blocking effects were observed. Moreover, no sedative or other central nervous system effects were observed. Radiolabeled tissue distribution studies in rats indicated that fexofenadine does not cross the blood-brain barrier.

Side Effects:
The most commonly reported adverse effects are:
● Nausea
● Diarrhea
● Drowsiness
● Headache

Driving and Using Machineries:
Response to medication may vary from one individual to another, contain side effects like (vertigo, dizzies nervousness, insomnia) that have been reported very rarely with the medicine may affect some patient's ability to drive, operate machinery.

Storage:
Store in a well closed container in cool, dry place, away from direct heat and light.
