Lubiprostone Soft Gel is used to relieve stomach pain, bloating, and straining and produce softer and more frequent bowel movements in people who have chronic idiopathic constipation (difficult or infrequent passage of stools that lasts for 3 months or longer and is not caused by a disease or a medication).
This medication may improve symptoms such as bloating and abdominal discomfort, improve stool texture, lessen the need to strain, and decrease the feeling of not completely relieving oneself.

Indications
For the treatment of chronic constipation: Indicated for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome With Constipation: Indicated for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) in women at least 18 years old.

Mechanism of Action
Lubiprostone belongs to a class of drugs known as chloride channel activators, IBS agents, Laxative and it works by increasing the amount of fluid within your intestines, making the passage of stool easier.

It increases the secretion of fluids in the intestine, which in turn increases the motility of the intestine, thereby making the stool soft and easier to pass. Contraindication
Lubiprostone Soft Gel is contraindicated in patients with known or suspected mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction

You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends.
